== History ==
The Bidding was first released on Broadjam as a solo demo by Joe Hawley in early 2005. <ref>[https://tallyhall.livejournal.com/995.html?thread=995#t995 Tally Hall LiveJournal reply from Coz Baldwin, March 15th 2005]</ref> It was then released on [[The Pingry EP]], recorded at a studio in the University of Michigan. The introduction hums to The Bidding were originally meant for [[Spring And A Storm]], as shown on an early demo for Spring And A Storm before it had most of its lyrics. Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum 2008 has a entirely different recording than M.M.M.M 2005, having different intro harmonies. 

The recording on M.M.M.M. 2008 has a much slower tempo, being about 10 seconds slower than 2005's. The keys and bell sound during [[Rob Cantor]]'s verse are also much louder in the mix.

* On September 4th, 2023, the Joe Hawley solo demo for The Bidding was uploaded on various streaming platforms as a single, under Joe Hawley's name and using the cover from [[Admittedly Incomplete Demos]].
