Sketches is the first solo album by Andrew Horowitz. It was released under his alternative name edu at first on cassette tape in March of 2012. Eventually, however the cassette tapes sold out, and the page laid left abandoned for some time. However, Andrew eventually decided to release the album digitally for purchase later on.

Sketches was later remastered and re-released as "Sketches 3D" in 2019, with a Kickstarter to help fund physical releases.

History

The album was recorded in Andrew's New York apartment over a period of six months from August 2011 to February 2012 after the end of the Good & Evil tour.[1] The album seemingly had no real title back then, only called "cassette tape 1".[1]

The first single from the album was miss melody, released on Bandcamp in 2011.[1]

For a time the album wasn't released digitally[2], primarily because Andrew wanted it to be more "intimate" and "personal".[1] Eventually however, Andrew would cave in and release it digitally for more people to hear.[3]

Sketches 3D attempted to clean up the album with better production, attributed to Andrew's recent work in music production. This also aims to release the album more fully, as the previous album was only barely released on cassette (thus the cover art), and was extremely obscure to purchase digitally other than through a Bandcamp link.

The album, alongside being re-released on Spotify and other similar platforms, was released through vinyl records, which you could get by funding the album's initial [4] Kickstarter, though by that point the album was already completed. Backers also, depending on how much they pledged, received a CD copy alongside their vinyl.

Several other items were also up for sale, such as Andrew's old keyboard that he used for tours, and his first ever acoustic guitar, with a case entirely covered by random stickers, some including classic Tally Hall Merchandise.

After the Kickstarter event, signed Sketches 3d cd and vinyl versions of the album were also available periodically in Andrew's store. But as of Mar 26, 2021, Andrew has sold out of these "foreveeerrrrr".[5]

Three exclusive bonus tracks were given to those who donated to the Kickstarter fundraiser: the full "Misfortune" performance of Lemons and Pears by the Toy Orchestra, a remastered Tomorrow and Today track, and an entirely new track Grandpa is Hiding. [6]

A few unsigned sketches 3d CDs were sold at Andrew's live performance with Jukebox The Ghost in 2023.[7]
