Mr. President, There's an Asteroid Headed Directly For the Earth: The Musical is a most likely canceled musical written and scripted by Rick Lax with music and lyrics composed by Rob Cantor.[1][2] Originally, it was to be pitched to Amazon Studios as an episodic online musical to be hosted on Amazon Instant Video. While it was never picked up, demos do exist of the four songs in the first part. However, Rob attempts to cover every single role. A F-bomb is also present inside of this song.
An outline of the four acts was recovered by SkyetheGuy, which is referred to as a "Mini Bible", most likely it is a digestable version of the entire storyline for those who are working on the project.[3] In addition to this, there are also 2 scripts for Act I of the musical. The latter of which corrects a spelling error, and removes information about the website and password[1][2]
Synopsis
Series Concept:
"In every disaster movie, some guy bursts into the Oval Office and says, "Mr. President! There's an asteroid headed directly for the earth!" This is that guy's story."
"Calvert, our geeky hero, meets Kayla at an astronomy lecture. She misread a flyer and thought it was an astrology talk. Her mistake will prove to be the most devastating event in the course of human history."[4]
The story focusses primarily Calvert, who meets his love-interest Kayla, after an astronomy lecture. They go on a date, fall in love, and their love inadvertedly causes an asteroid to head directly towards the Earth. Meanwhile Vice President Fullbag, Calvert's boss, is doing everything in his power to sway the voters and win the upcoming election, and prevent the asteroid from hitting Earth. There is also a sub-plot of Calvert's co-worker and best friend Rajesh, who is also trying to find love by pestering his co-worker Rita.
AsteroidMusical.com
As shown by the plot synopsis, there used to be a website for the musical containing all the songs (and most likely the script.) However, as of 2017, the website has been closed down. Telling from archive.org, the music was most likely just stored in a simple text file-structure format, rather than a pretty website, due to its main page being "asteroidmusical.com:80".[5]
Lost Media?
Thankfully not! The entire first part, music demos and all, has been recovered and can be found on YouTube and tallyall.club.[6]
