History
According to Joe, the album was "a spur-of-the-moment idea" in the summer of 2015 during a meeting in Nyack, NY.[1] "Joe Hawley Joe Hawley" was suggested as a joke, the opposite of Miracle Musical's quite secretive nature, but it stuck.
Joe Hawley Joe Hawley was first announced on June 15th 2016 as a PledgeMusic fundraiser,[2] where people could pledge money to help fund the album and receive rewards.[3] These rewards included a Joe Hawley branded clock, video call with Joe, Starbucks with Joe in Hawaii, a day of producing the album with Bora Karaca at the LaBORAtory, and a Joe Hawley branded kazoo.[3] On the day of its launch, the project raised 25% of its goal.[4]
Part of the PledgeMusic campaign was a series titled "Being Joe Hawley", a video series of both Joe Hawley Joe Hawley production and whatever Joe felt like filming on that day.[5] Joe Hawley also made a website to promote the album[6], however the website became defunct in 2017[7]
By June 18th the campaign would reach 83% of its goal.[3] On June 20th it finally reached its goal.[8]
On June 20th, 2016 an advertisement entitled "Joe Hawley Advertisement 1" was uploaded to the Joe Hawley YouTube page. It is a 48 second long humorous, cryptic, and obtuse advertisement for the album, featuring The Ad Twins.[9]
On July 16th, 2016 an addendum to the previous advertisement was posted to the YouTube Page[10]; and on July 27th, 2016 a third advertisement was uploaded, which revealed the title of the musical project to be "Joe Hawley Joe Hawley"[11]
Release
Joe Hawley Joe Hawley was initially planned to be released September 23, 2016, but there was a eighteen hour delay, followed by a two-week delay. After the time had passed, the album underwent another two week delay and was finally released as a direct download via PledgeMusic on October 21st, 2016 sometime near 03:36:22 A.M.[12]
After its initial release 'Joe Hawley Joe Hawley' could be obtained for free digitally through bandcamp, albeit without the tracks 'We Are In Space' or 'White Rabbit'.[13] however the link to the Bandcamp page went down shortly afterwards.
On May 7th, 2017 a music video was uploaded to Joe Hawley's YouTube page for 'Crazy F***'[14] and On June 22nd, 2017, an official lyric video for Rotary Park was also uploaded to YouTube.[15]
Between October 31st, 2017 and December 5th, 2018, numerous demos, audio samples, and instrumental versions of the songs from 'Joe Hawley Joe Hawley' were uploaded to YouTube[16]
On 11th November, 2020 the album was uploaded to Apple Music, and Spotify[17] with Aristotle's Denial being the only reversed song.[18] In addition, there were a number of changes to song titles, with Crazy F*** being listed as 'Crazy Food', and with more features added to the titles. 'White Rabbit' has also been removed from the 2020 version.[19]
More than a year later on March 13th 2022, Joe Hawley Joe Hawley was removed from certain streaming platforms and it is unknown why it was removed altogether. Joe is known for removing songs off of streaming services however, like with Variations On A Cloud almost every September 11th. When asked about it, Joe stated: "dunno".[20] The Album appeared back on Spotify on April 1st, 2022.
γɘlwɒH ɘoႱ γɘlwɒH ɘoႱ
On April 16th 2019, Joe Hawley released γɘlwɒH ɘoႱ γɘlwɒH ɘoႱ on Bandcamp[21] and Spotify.[22] The album is the same as Joe Hawley Joe Hawley except the tracks are reversed, in reverse order, and have reversed titles. This was done to get around copyright issues as many of the tracks use samples. The only exception to this is Aristotle's Denial, which does not play in reverse.[23] This is most likely due to the song featuring no (uncleared) copyright samples.
On November 9th, 2023, Yelwah Eoj Yelwah Eoj was removed from streaming services.
