Andrew Horowitz |
edu, pronounced ee-doo, is the first solo/side project of Andrew Horowitz since Tally Hall's success took off. Not much is known about it at this time, but Andrew says this music will remain intimate; which appears to mean in both melody and idea. His first set of demos was initially released on cassette tape so as to not have it be circulated in a disposable format; the first batch being mailed out in March 2012. On December 17th 2012, Andrew decided to make the whole album available digitally through his BandCamp page.
As for the name of the project, Andrew explains on the project's Facebook page: "my family calls me edu (ee-doo). from my understanding, edu is how i pronounced andrew as an infant. my music, like my nickname, is personal. and so, gather close and welcome."
History
edu was first introduced to by the public on November 23rd, 2011, through his debut album sketches. Not much came about after this album's release, other than a single interview edu did, confirming that a second album was (kind of) a work in progress. He referred to the (currently untitled) album as much more "baroque" than sketches. No further information has surfaced since except for a single track that came from a confusing origin; a random russian music website.
In 2019, edu announced a re-release for his debut album, on both vinyl and streaming services. The project was funded by Kickstarter, similarly to how Joe Hawley Joe Hawley was financed. The album has been changed slightly, with what edu describes as a removal of "some of the junk that was clogging it up," and saying the album is "better sonically," presumably a result of Andrew's music producing career in between the two releases.
