Taken For A Ride, is a song by Andrew Horowitz. and was later re-recorded for Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum.

History

Taken For A Ride was one of many "new" songs from 2005, first appearing on The Pingry EP. This version features likely Rob Cantor and Joe Hawley on lead vocals instead of Andrew and is a simple acoustic recording.

Taken For A Ride would then make its way onto Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum in 2005, with Andrew and Joe on co-lead vocals and much more complex instrumentation. This recording makes use of a vocoder on Andrew's voice. Additionally, it transitions from Welcome To Tally Hall on M.M.M.M.

In 2007, it would be partially re-recorded for the album's re-release by Atlantic Records. This version makes use of a clearer vocoder and some moments of silence were extended by a bit.

Music Video

A music video was made for Taken For A Ride, and was created as part of The Los Angeles Animation Festival, and directed by Miles Flanagan.[1][2] The final version was never posted officially by the band.

In 2007 Los Angeles Animation Festival featured a contest which provided professional footage of Tally Hall singing & playing. Contestants could take it, edit it and add animation, then submit it.[3]

The earliest known entry for the contest of the video dates back to In November 2007, YouTube user 'cGreer20' made a 28 second stop-frame animation video. [4] On September 12th, 2008, a version of the video surfaced with animations by 'Oddflux' [5] On September 25th, 2008, the template video surfaced, which showed Tally Hall's base video - without any additional animation. [6]

When asked about the state of the video at a 2008 concert, Andrew said they were unsure about releasing the video due to it being "good, but not excellent".

Trivia

Lyrics

Marvin walked into a helpless land and wondered lightly "Am I happy, is this happy?"
Following the footsteps left by man he stepped to reprimand the mystic, who's sadistic
Took a step into the elevator who said "Guess I'll see you later, don't you worry."

Fifteen flights that lasted nights and days that spent without a cent for creatures, with their beat shirts

Listening to painted whispered light on top forgotten hill

Next the stranded senate of the white brick house with flowers asked some questions for their story
All feeling now he took his bow and left the stage of time with no answers to no questions
Lonely paperbacks that wanted just a taste of feeling to implode them before living
Tiptoed to that wooden sign that said "Now take your place in line for happy, this is lovely"

Listening to painted whispered light on top forgotten hill

One secondary smile
To go that extra mile
To make me feel today
To make it go away
The chemistry is gone
Taken for a ride
Far away from you
No longer left inside

The actor with his world renowned was thinking 'bout his last real day of silence, was it over?
Or is it just we all think that our answer isn't real its just a picture of a letter
Bumble mumble make the rounds no matter what you'll seem profound it's useless just to worry
Something normal happens somewhere far away in clouds so please stop thinking this is happy

Listening to painted whispered light on top forgotten hill

One secondary smile
To go that extra mile
To make me feel today
To make it go away
The chemistry is gone
Taken for a ride
Far away from you
No longer left inside

One secondary smile
To go that extra mile
To make me feel today
To make it go away
The chemistry is gone
Taken for a ride
Far away from you
No longer left inside

There're no secrets in the door
Just a moment doing chores
(Don't look so sad)

And there's something
And there's something
And there's something
And there's something next to nothing
And there's something
And there's something
But you're gone
