Hidden In The Sand, a song by Joe Hawley, appears as a hidden track on Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum.
The music video for Hidden In The Sand debuted at the end of the 10th episode of Tally Hall's Internet Show as a hidden music video to end the first season.
Trivia
- The song references Marcel Proust's novel In Search of Lost Time. In the novel's second volume, the Narrator becomes enamoured with a "little band" of teenage girls as they stroll by the sea.
- At one time, there was some question as to how the song received the title "Hidden In The Sand" since it's called [Untitled Track] in iTunes, not listed in the track listing of the CD insert, and those words are not a part of the lyrics, either. However, in the liner notes of the Complete Demos, after the lyrics of all the songs, you'll see: "(Hidden In The Sand)".
- This song appeared in Season 4, Episode 11 (AKA: The Dream Lover) of The O.C. It plays while Seth is in a dream world walking down the hallway and into his room, confused and scared. He then befriends an otter by the pool.
- At the end of the track, there is a reversed recording of Marvin Yagoda saying, "Wouldn't the world be better off if we took nonsense more seriously?"
Lyrics
We were playing in the sand And you found a little band You told me you fell in love with it Hadn't gone as I planned When you had to bid adieu Said you'd never love anew I wondered if I could hold it and fall in love with it too You told me to buy a pony But all I wanted was you
