Blinded by the Light is a song by Bruce Springsteen and covered by the band Tally Hall. It was one of their earliest covers, being played at The Blind Pig when they were called "540", before many of their originals like Good Day and Ruler Of Everything were written.[1]
Tally Hall's cover is based on the arrangement by British rock band Manfred Mann's Earth Band, which features many lyrical changes from the original. Tally Hall would later sparingly play it during the years after Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum's release, including at the Knitting Factory on July 9th 2008 and at Bowling Green on April 19th 2006.[2][3]
Trivia
- The song's title and chorus were referenced in Joe Hawley's song Bahamian Rap City.
Lyrics
Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Madman runners, drummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps His way into his hat With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older (aah aah) I tripped the merry-go-round (aah aah) With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin' (aah aah) The calliope crashed to the ground (aah aah) The calliope crashed to the ground! But she was blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (aah, aah, aah, aah) (aah, aah, aah, aah) Some silicone sister with a manager mister Told me I got what it takes She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong Play the song with the funky break" And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart (aah aah) To see if it was safe outside (aah aah) And little Early-Pearly came by in his swirly-wurly (aah aah) And asked me if I needed a ride (aah aah) Asked me if I needed a ride! But she was blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light She got down but she never got tired She's gonna make it through the night Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun But mama, that's where the fun is! Asked me if I needed a ride! But she was blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light (Madman runners, drummers, Indians in the summer) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (With a teenage diplomat) Blinded by the light (In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night! (His way into his hat) Blinded by the light (Madman runners, drummers, Indians in the summer) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (With a teenage diplomat) Blinded by the light (In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night! (His way into his hat) Blinded by the light She got down, but she never got tired She's gonna make it through the night She's gonna make it, through the night
