Go to Bed is a song by Joe Hawley. The song begins with a simple melody but often branches off and then again returns to it's "roots", if you will. Much of the song uses parts from the pre-Tally Hall song Break It Down, performed by Joe's 2003 comedy troupe anonyMous and later Tally Hall in 2006.

A version of Go to Bed titled 'Minimall Karaoke Edition' was uploaded to Joe Hawley's YouTube on January 29th, 2018.[1] And on the same day, a video of the "Wonka Vox" was also uploaded[2]

Trivia

  • Go to Bed is partly sung by the band Minimall, who were originally a Tally Hall cover band named "Titty Hall".
  • The reversed bits at the end of the song include a metalic-sounding voice reading a bit from "Good Night, Moon" and part of a melody from earlier in the song.
  • The song samples "Christmas is Coming" by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, as well as an unidentified version of Gliding Dance of the Maidens (also known as Stranger In Paradise) by Alexander Borodin.
  • In sections of the song part of the beat comes from the Casio Vl-tone’s (a toy keyboard/ calculator from the 80’s) rhythm section. More specifically, the song uses the beat “Rock 1”.

Lyrics

Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Baby go to bed
Relax
Got to hit the sack
Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Got to go to bed

Dip dip dip
Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Baby go to bed
M-kay
Got to hit the hay
Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Got to go to bed

Our R.E.M. might synchronize
freediving in iceberg guise

Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Baby go to bed
Relax
Got to hit the sack (hit that sack Jack)
Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Got to go to
Bop bop bop bop bop buh-bed

Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Baby go to bed
M-kay
Got to hit the hay (hit the hay Renee)
Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Got to go (got to go to bed)
Go to bed

In summer places
breezy rides romanticize
free sighs when we phantasize

MO: I don't feel like going to bed

AR: Let's play a rhyming game instead

MS: Eenie meenie dirty cleany... I'm not tired

WM: Yeah, I'm not sleepy

AR: Have you heard the Joey sound?

MO: Do we want to break it down?

JH: Eenie meenie Minimall
 Prepare to have a ball

BD: NO.

AR: One elusive fish!

WM: Split the difference; make a wish

MO: When I grow up, I'll make it right

BD: I'll make a left and say goodnight

AR: Break it down

MS: Eeenie meenie minus five

MO: Please mind the neighbros
 to stay alive

BD: I'd like to hug them with my phone

WM: I'd call...

AR: But no one's home!

Okay, let's go to bed
before the neighbors smite us dead
This pajama party has been fun
but the rhyming game is done

Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Baby go to bed
Don't scan
for the boogeyman (Mr. Sandman)
Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Got to go to bed
A-wimoweh HA (Can I join?)

Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Baby go to bed
Hope tonight
that the bugs don't bite (baby go to bed)
Go to bed go to bed go to bed
Got to go to (bed)
wop bop a luau bed (go to bed)

Synaesthetic candy drops
yawn everlasting flavor gobs
Clues of true colorforms
abridge thick textbook'd
molten meaningness norms
in lieu of us

Goodnight, Joe Hawley
