This song was originally conceptualized during [[Tally Hall]]'s [[Good & Evil]] writing phase. It might have been played once or twice live during the band's residency at Union Hall in Brooklyn during the month of February 2009, but nowhere else. It's changed little since its demo.

The demo version of the track is similar to the final version.

===Recording===
When asked on the 2018 Reddit AMA how Bora got the piano tone during the bridge section he replied: <br>
<i>"I recorded the piano part first. Then I played that recording through my speakers, pointing directly at my piano strings. Leaving a barbell on the sustain pedal to keep them resonating, I recorded the piano strings as the speakers played the piano part."</i><ref>[https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/a5ouhk/we_are_joe_hawley_ross_federman_and_bora_karaca/ebohahs/ Reddit AMA. 15secondsofbora. This song refers to a lot of lore around the fae courts, (fairies), the erlking name refers to the king of the fairies, known for stealing the souls of children. Specifically he only appears to someone who is about to die and only them. Which makes sense as to why he found the forest and she found the erlking. There’s a lot more here involving the fountain of infinite mirrors and how it all related back to murder,  but if the legends of the fae are true, invoking the name of them many times here is sure to get me killed but it’s super interesting to look into and I highly recommended it.
