The Bidding was first released on Broadjam as a solo demo by Joe Hawley. It was then released on [[The Pingry EP]], recorded at a studio in the University of Michigan. The introduction hums to The Bidding were originally meant for [[Spring And A Storm]], as shown on an early demo for Spring And A Storm before it had most of its lyrics. Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum 2008 has a entirely different recording than M.M.M.M 2005, having different intro harmonies.

The recording on M.M.M.M. 2008 has a much slower tempo, being about 10 seconds slower than 2005's. The keys and bell sound during [[Rob Cantor]]'s verse are also much louder in the mix.
