Write vs Compose in music

As you say, I don’t know the difference between write and compose for music, but I couldn’t find any search results that say there’s a difference either (ignoring results that compare it with "songwriting" which also seems different)

Also, since that "search engine" reference always lists all members of the band, it seems pretty useless and redundant especially with the PDF source here. Aaron Liu (talk) 06:27, 15 December 2023 (PST)

-@Aaron Liu: "Writing" is for lyricism, "Composing" is for music. & Multiple references are always useful! Especially if one ends up being befallen to link rot. Hope this helps! 🙏 Joshface (talk) 07:36, 15 December 2023 (PST)

Problem is that that source doesn’t even offer any useful information. If the other link disappears, this one would not help at all.
Since there are no composer credits, I think it’s correct to assume at least writing refers to both. Also, in Joe's ol' bio it says "I wrote Ruler of Everything and Andrew wrote Good Day", which wouldn’t make sense if writing only referred to the lyrics. If you have further references you would like to add, please do so! A wiki works better with more references, and not less.
In your example Joe wrote the lyrics to Ruler of Everything and Andrew wrote the lyrics to Good Day. They are both the "writer" in each use case, and each member of Tally Hall is the "Composer" in each use case.
If you are still confused: here is a helpful and informative article of each terminoligy. Hope this helps! 🙏 Joshface (talk) 08:15, 15 December 2023 (PST)
More references are only more beneficial when they actually support the claim. That one does not.
Thanks for that page. Since most people probably don’t know the difference, we should probably ask Joe what he meant by "write". At least songs written by Andrew have their distinct musical style. Aaron Liu (talk) 09:50, 15 December 2023 (PST)
The BMI index shows the composers, which is an official source. I feel it beneficial, and it hurts no one by including it. However, again, if you have further references that you feel are more beneficial that you would like to add, please do so.
As HITS have reported, and Andrew has said: do not engage with Joe. If you would like to know the "writer" of those songs i.e. who wrote the lyrics, you need look no further than the album liner notes for Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. Information that has been known since 2005. Joshface (talk) 11:25, 15 December 2023 (PST)
It's very confusing for whoever tries to click on the first source. It also says "writers/composers"; it's too ambiguous to be useful at all and only contributes a detriment.
When I typed Joe I meant to type "Joe & Co." :p don't know what happened there. Anyways, the liner notes just use brackets, so that probably means they both did the lyrics and music for it. This website doesn't have a composer credit, so the writer field probably means both lyrics and composer. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:07, 15 December 2023 (PST)
