Cannibal is the 4th track on the album Good & Evil. It is written and sung by Zubin Sedghi.

History

Cannibal was first demoed sometime before fall of 2009. Its demo features different lyrics and a completely different bridge. After its recording for Good & Evil, it would first publicly be heard on Tally Hall's 2009 tour with Rooney and Crash Kings, likely at El Rey Theatre on the 27th of November 2009.[1]

The studio version of Cannibal was one of 6 songs played at two Ustream events with Tally Hall.[2]

The first known instance of the Cannibal comes from BORALOGUE IX, in which you can hear it playing in the background at around 0:37.[3]

The first known live appearance of Cannibal comes from the November 29th, 2009 Slim's show, in which Joe wrote the setlist on a napkin,[4] which included Cannibal on it.

The first confirmed live performance of Cannibal comes from the December 1st, 2009 Hawthorne Theater show.[5]

Trivia

  • In an 2019 interview, Joe Hawley remarked that Cannibal was a jam to play live, although he might've forgotten how to play some of it.[6]

Song Meanings

When asked on Ustream about its meaning, Zubin stated “it’s about being very hungry and having no other options”.[7]

Lyrics

Looking for a cavern
A place where she can stay
Waiting for the darkness
When she leaves obsessed to make her way to me
Because it's getting to the time when she will need to feed &

I am the willing victim of a cannibal
She rips out my bones just like I'm an animal
And right when I'm feeling like my blood is drained
She calls it a game
But the wound that she leaves is unmistakable

I am not the only one that she has come to see
Dig up the skeletons of men who thought that they would be the
One like me
Like they could be the ones to make her believe
But for now

I am the willing victim of a cannibal
She rips out my bones just like I'm an animal
And right when I'm feeling like my blood is drained
She calls it a game
But the wound that she leaves is unmistakable

Hiding in corners disguised
She's a phantom, a glimmer inside
She keeps on feeding while I am conceding
So please won't you tear me open wide

I am the willing victim of a cannibal
She rips out my bones just like I'm an animal
And right when I'm feeling like my blood is drained
She calls it a game
But the wound that she leaves is unmistakable

Demo Lyrics

Sitting in a bedroom
I built inside a cave
She's waiting for the darkness
And when she leaves her room and makes her way to me
Because it's getting to the time when she will need to feed

And I am the willing victim of a cannibal
She rips out my bones just like I'm an animal
And right when I'm feeling like my blood is drained
She calls it a game
But the wound that she leaves is unmistakable

I'm not the only one that she has come to see
Dig up the skeletons of mеn who thought that they would be the onе like me
And I have another shot to make her believe
But for now

I am the willing victim of a cannibal
She rips out my bones just like I'm an animal
And right when I'm feeling like my blood is drained
She calls it a game
But the wound that she leaves is unmistakable

Hiding in corners, disguised
Sucking the glimmer right out of your eyes
Because she is super natural
And I don't know much about her
But I know she is eating my insides

I am the willing victim of a cannibal
She rips out my bones just like I'm an animal
And right when I'm feeling like my blood is drained
She calls it a game
But the wound that she leaves is unmistakable
