History
Special was originally written as a demo for The CW teen drama series "Riverdale".[3][4]
Release, Removal, & Reupload
Special was uploaded to YouTube on December 23, 2017[5], and uploaded to iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify a day later.[6][7]
The original copyrights for this song listed the record label as: "729374 Records DK", which means it was most likely distributed via online distribution service DistroKid; it has later changed to the usual "585-J-HAWLEY" label.
Joe made a Facebook post advertising the single on the 27th of December 2017[8]
On November 9th, 2023, Special was taken off of streaming services, most likely due to Joe having to delete his DistroKid profile, after repeatedly having people fraudulently upload tracks to his profile under his name.[9]
On November 17th 2024, Special was re-uploaded to most streaming services along with Yes Please and/or Weird Bed.[10] This new upload differs from the original, in that it was originally listed as "8024327 Records DK"[11] (though this was later changed to the usual "585-J-Hawley"), Nabors is no longer credited at all as collaborator, and the release date is incorrect, listing the release date as the 23rd instead of the correct date of the 24th of December, and the copyright and publishing date has been changed from 2017 to 2024. Leading Hidden In The Sand's team to suspect that this re-upload is also fraudulent, and not done by Joe Hawley himself.
Joe has not posted about the single since it's initial removal.
Trivia
- Marcy Nabors is credited simply as "Nabors" for unknown reasons. As of 2024, they have no other songs on Spotify under that name.[12]
- Nabors appeared on and organized the fan project We Think We're Playing In A Band.[13]
